THE EMERGENCE OF CDP THROUGH THE PEOPLE'S MOVEMENT
Coastal Development Partnership (CDP) is a not-for-profit, public interest serving progressive development & environmental activist organization, workingin Bangladesh. On January 01, 1997, CDP was instituted as a coordinating secretariat for a network of NGOs trying to relieve the sufferings of the people of the waterlogged areas in the southwest coastal region of Bangladesh. Begun as an information exchange and meeting place for advocacy NGOs, gradually CDP become part of the broader environmental movement. CDP has achieved expertise to assist both national & international development process on Climate Change, Food Sovereignty, Sustainable Agriculture, Responsible Aquaculture, Pro-poor Environmental Governance, Biodiversity & Nature Conservation, Women Rights & monitoring International Financial Institutions (ADB, World Bank) and UN negotiations.
CDP works with socially excluded, poor, marginalized indigenous, rural & coastal community and grassroots NGOs/CBOswho are working with the marginalized extreme poor, socially excluded & indigenous communities.CDP also works with the leading academic institutions, and civil society groups to ensure development effectiveness.

Mission:
Capacitate the deprived and discriminated indigenous communities, socially excluded extreme poor, people’s organizations, grassroots NGOs and local civil societies to achieve social, economic & climate justice and pro-poor environmental governance.

GOVERNANCE AND LEADERSHIP FRAMEWORK
ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITMENT
CDP nurtures the culture “Working together for doing the right thing, & if needed start thinking outside the box to generate innovations”. In CDP, “doing the right thing” means more than just following laws, policies, and procedures and “working together” means building teams, enhancing creativity, and improving collective decision making. In CDP “working together” for “doing the right thing”, means maintaining the highest standards of ethics and integrity in everything CDP does.CDP follows a people-centered & vision-oriented Rights-based Ecosystem Approach (REA) for programmatic intervention. REA focuses on securing livelihood of the marginalized extreme poor people for without endangering biodiversity & livelihood of the future generations by disrupting the ecosystem resilience. REA integrates four (4) development frameworks (Protection, Prevention, Promotion and Transformation). Each people-centered action of CDP aims at reducing or eliminating threat to climate change risks, biodiversity conservation and ecosystem resilience, thus to the sustainability of natural resource base for both the present and the future generations.

TARGET GROUPS
CDP targets renewable natural resource dependent poor and marginalized livelihood groups like marginal farmers, fisher folk, landless farm laborers, indigenous people to enhance their livelihood security, protect them from climate change vulnerabilities, human rights violations.CDP also targets local journalists, grassroots organizers, local NGOs, people representatives and government in order to strengthen eco-friendly socio-economic development and sustainable livelihood of the poor in Bangladesh.
Primary Target groups of the CDP
a) Landless farming communities in the coastal, remote river islands and wetlands areas;
b) Cyclone, tornado, droughts, floods & river bank erosion affected poor communities;
c) Poor women, female-headed households and youth;
d) the water logged (previously wetland) community;
e) Wetland-dependent communities;
f) Poor households with Differently Able Person;
g) Indigenous communities (Both Highland & Plain Land);
OPERATION, HUMAN RESOURCES AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Executive Director with the support of Chief Coordination Officer, four Chief Regional Officers and Finance & Administration Manager conducts and maintains the day-to-day organizational matters. CDP Central Coordination Office (CO) in Dhaka performs the executive coordination role, devises the overall strategic direction and priorities, provide policy guidance, oversight resources and monitor operations.To address local development issues with decentralized management approach, CDP has divided the whole country into four regions [(a) Khulna-Barisal Region b) Dhaka-Sylhet Region c) Rajshahi-Rangpur Region and d) Chittagong Hill Tracts-Chittagong Region]. CDP Regional Offices (RO) manage regional operations and provide support to Branch Offices (BO) in their respective regions (including support in development of the program, day-to-day assistance on program implementation, monitoring of program progress, oversight functions, supporting policy dialogue and programmatic cooperation with regional entities). In each region, the designated Chief Regional Officer (CRO) coordinates and facilitates CDP interventions under the supervision of Chief Coordination Officer (CCO).

CDP groups similar or related occupational specialties together into Team-Based Structure (TBS)to perform a specialized set of tasks, such as Program, Research, Advocacy & Networking, Human Resources Management, Finance & Accounts, etc. CDP also use cross-functional team with different functional expertise, skills and experience work together through action learning process to solve a problem or to accomplish a task on ad hoc.
