Democratic Governance & People's Empowerment (DGP)

The effort of the Democratic Governance & People's Empowerment (DGP) sector is directed to capacitate coastal poor to effectively communicate and consult with government agencies & NGOs concerning their access to and use of coastal natural resources for securing their livelihood. The DGP Activities are focused on the community level sensitization meeting with religion-ethnic minorities, disable people, old voters, and information dissemination meeting, media campaign, round table with regional news papers, formation of community level election campaign cell, and formation of civil society election brigade. Since 2003, CDP has been monitoring elections, the pre and post election environment.

Partnership, Advocacy & Networking (PAN) Sector - 7: Democratic Governance & People's Empowerment (DGP) Democratic awareness and Election Monitoring
  • Election Monitoring. Coastal Development Partnership has been conducting monitoring of election processes during the national and local elections to ensure free and fair exercise of franchise by the people.
Capacity Building of local government/ LEBs
  • Capacity Building of Grassroots Partners (CBGP): The purpose of this project is to build up the capacity and ensure effective information management of grassroots NGOs, CBOs, LEBs and other Civil Society activists on legal movement against Human Rights abuses, creation of social protective measures, etc. Manusher Jonno funded the project
  • Capacity Building of Grassroots NGOs for Social Development Activism: This project is meant to enable Civil Society Organizations (NGOs or others) to conduct advocacy on Governance and Human Rights issues. Stichting Overal of Nijmegen, The Netherlands, funds the project.
Access and Control over Natural Resources, Right to forest, Right to water
  • Peoples River Commission (PRC): A CDP initiative to ensure Peoples participation in the Management of the Ganges Basin in Bangladesh, India and Nepal.
