Globalization, Empowerment and Trade (GET)

The major objectives of the Globalization, Economy and Trade (GET) are reinforcement of the civil society to build their capacity and develop linkage with the Government; and ensure civil societys participation in national and international policy debates & negotiations. CDP believes that unless there is clear understanding about the global economic trends and trade practices, empowerment and elimination of poverty will always remain out of reach. CDP is working on the and the negotiations going on for the purpose of bringing about justice in the world trade regime. CDP is engaged in the capacity building of partner NGOs and creating awareness among the people in respect of the World Trade Organization (WTO), IFIs, etc the impact of WTO rules & IFIs intervention on the lives and livelihoods of the people of this region.

Knowledge Management Division Sector - 8: Globalization, Empowerment and Trade (GET) Election Monitoring Coastal Development Partnership has been conducting monitoring of election processes during the national and local elections to ensure free and fair exercise of franchise by the people.
Monitoring WTO CDP believes that unless there is clear understanding about the global economic trends and trade practices, empowerment and elimination of poverty will always remain out of reach. CDP is working on the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the negotiations going on for the purpose of bringing about justice in the world trade regime. CDP is engaged in the capacity building of partner NGOs and creating awareness among the people in respect of the WTO, the negotiations going on in respect of international trade, the impact of WTO rules on the lives and livelihoods of the people of this region.

In 2006, CDP formed a network "Peoples Initiative to Resist Unjust World Trade System" with the collaboration of CSO, trade union leader, political leader, journalist, development activists. A series of campaign have been performed such as people's convention in four districts of Bangladesh, Human Chain, press conference, and solidarity strike. The initiative also conducts a Peoples Caravan covering 7 districts of Bangladesh.
Monitoring IFIs: ADB and World Bank Watch. Peoples forum on ADB: From its inception, one of the major programs of CDP is to monitor ADB's Projects in its working areas. CDP organized many successful peoples movements against the unjust activities of IFIs specially ADB. It is necessary to Build up capacity of the local activists regarding local farmer leaders, development activists' women organizer, journalists, LEBs and students for effective advocacy, campaigning the unjust activities of ADB, CDP frequently organizes court yard awareness meetings under the banner of Peoples forum on ADB.

A Bangla training material, developed/translated on the basis of ADB toolkit compiled by Bank Information Centre (BIC) focusing its modality of loan, policies, accountability, complain system etc.

World Bank Watch: To monitor World Bank, its policies and its affects on people of Bangladesh CDP developed the following activities.
  • To understand PRSP and conducted campaign on it.
  • Campaign on WB immunity.
  • Understanding WB projects in Bangladesh.
Monitoring MDGs, SAARC Coals and GCAP. CDP has been monitoring MDG, SAARC goals and is the member of GCAP movement. CDP has developed resource centers on this issues and orientation handout for partner NGOs and grassroots civil society members.
