Mobilization

Since inception in 1997, Coastal Development Partnership has been addressing the deep-rooted, structural causes of poverty as well as the symptoms (lack of basic needs) with Rights-based & people centered approach.CDP has been maintaining pro-poor project implementation, knowledge-based and gender sensitive research & policy advocacy over a decade to make a positive difference to the livelihood struggles of the marginalized rural & coastal poor.

The CDP project is based on grassroots demand and design and it intends to provide innovative solution to a problem which bothers coastal poor people, assist them to create their own organization and also to provide a better solution to a problem which is solved in a less efficient manner. Any CDP project, from design to implementation, is guided through coalition/network & Innovation Systems (IS) approach. As the IS requires a very flexible approach to program management and finance, selection of the implementing partners, their role and partnership norms for the implementation generally finalized during project proposal phase according to their experience and capacity. However, CDP try their level best to ensure meaningful participation of the potential implementing organizations (NGOs/CBOs). In CDP projects, potential implementing organizations (NGOs/CBOs) have scope to know each other; but can work independently according to individual institutional priorities with CDP guidance. CDP projects always try to establish linkage with leading academic institutions, local government, beneficiaries, and civil society groups for technical support and accelerating advocacy initiatives.

The CDP project development team initially review the donor documents & guidelines, and then prepare a briefing paper including concept note, letter of invitation, overview & guidelines, project cost sharing clause and send it to the partner NGOs/CBOs of the CDP developed networks who are working with the local community &accountable to them (Sustainable Agriculture Forum, CDP-SSOQ Partnership, SBCP Watch Group, People's River Commission and Citizens Committee for Conservation of Coastal Environment, Action Group for Shrimp Fry Collectors, Right to Food Movement & Capacity Building of Grassroots Partners). Partner NGOs/CBOs also disseminate it to other interested grassroots NGOs. Partner NGOs/CBOs provide letters of support and their proposal to the CDP about the proposed project.

CDP perceives that such process of open invitation represent the grassroots development voice for better livelihood by the interested NGOs/CBOs. Indirectly, the approach also articulates the voice of those coastal poor who are involved with the letters of support provided NGOs.

The advocacy campaign activities usually follow the vulnerable livelihood group approach with emphasis on poor women and children.
